Studying an Old Exam Version? Check These Codes Before You Book
2026 has been an unusually heavy year for exam version changes, and not just at Microsoft. If you are studying from material bought more than a few months ago, it is worth ten minutes to confirm the code you are preparing for is the one you will actually sit.
CompTIA
Linux+ is now XK0-006. If your study guide says XK0-005, it is the previous version. Our set covers XK0-006.
Data+ is now DA0-002. DA0-001 has been superseded. The current set is DA0-002.
A+ runs on 220-1201 and 220-1202. Both required, and if you are working from 220-1101 or 220-1102 material you are a full generation behind. Current sets: Core 1 and Core 2.
CASP+ is now SecurityX, CAS-005. Same exam lineage, new name. SecurityX CAS-005.
Security+ SY0-701 is still current, though SY0-801 is expected. If you are ready now, sit SY0-701 rather than waiting for a blueprint that has no confirmed date.
Microsoft
The full picture is in our 2026 retirement calendar, but the short version: AI-102 is now AI-103, AZ-204 is retired with no successor, and AZ-500 retires on 31 August in favour of SC-500.
Red Hat
RHCSA EX200 now targets RHEL 10. If your lab is built on RHEL 9, rebuild it. This is a practical exam, so version differences are not academic.
Current set: RHCSA EX200.
Fortinet
The certification names changed on 15 July 2026 when the NSE levels returned, but the exam codes did not. FCP_FGT_AD-7.6 and the rest are unchanged. If you are studying for a specific code, your material is still current. We covered this in detail in our Fortinet NSE update.
ISACA
CISM changes on 3 November 2026. The current outline stands until 2 November. If you are testing before then, existing material applies. After, the blueprint adds enterprise architecture and information security architecture. Full breakdown in our CISM timing guide.
How to check for yourself
Go to the vendor's own exam page, not a third-party summary, and read the code and version date at the top. Then compare it against whatever is printed on your study material. It takes two minutes per exam and it is the single cheapest mistake to avoid in certification prep.
A retired blueprint does not just mean a few outdated questions. On practical exams like RHCSA it can mean commands that no longer exist.
